The Motra was a 3-speed, 50cc bike designed as a rugged off-road vehicle that was only made in 1981 and 1982, mainly for the domestic Japanese market. If the design looks familiar, that's probably because Honda resurrected the design of the Motra in 2004 to produce the PS250, better known in North America as the Big Ruckus. Alas, the Big Ruckus only lasted two years before disappearing from the market. Maybe Honda will someday produce another bike with this look; we can only hope.
I received the photo above from a correspondent in Switzerland who signs himself "Lopetz" and has a website devoted to interesting motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, minibikes and even bicycles, but most of all the Honda Zoomer/Ruckus- it's called ZoomerBoys. Well worth a visit.
(Does anyone else think the name "Motra" reminds them of "Mothra"?)
